DIY Christmas Tree Garland

Whether you’re crafty or not, I think you’ll find this DIY project easy and oh so cute to decorate the house with things you might already have!

Supplies you’ll need:

  • Fabric pieces or scraps

  • A paper to draw a Christmas tree template (or print the one below)

  • string or twine

  • scissors that can cut through fabric

  • hot glue gun

  • Scalloped scissors/ pinking shears (optional)

  • wood stars (optional)

Here are some written steps of what I did if you want some plain ol’ instructions.

  1. Draw a tree on paper, cut it out and pin it to the fabric so you can cut out consistent shapes. Or you can print out the template below! (Doesn’t get easier than that)

  2. Cut out however many trees you want. I did 9 total so I cut 9 larger ones (leaving an even-ish border as I cut outside the template) with the white fleece fabric. Then I cut 9 in the beige fabric (exactly around the template) and trimmed it afterwards with pinking shears to prevent fraying and also because the scallops look cute!

  3. I used an iron-on adhesive and touched up corners with hot glue but you can definitely hot glue your entire smaller Christmas tree onto the larger one.

  4. I measured out 7 feet of twine and folded it to evenly space out 9 spots marking it with sharpie. Next I glued the back of the tree (near the tip) to the twine. I also folded over the point and stuck it in the glue to secure it a bit more.

  5. last but not least I glued on some wood stars we had lying around the house. I’m sure you could find something similar at the dollar store if you have nothing laying around. But you could also leave it starless and it would still look cute.

Have fun with it, don’t be afraid to get creative with whatever you have laying around and then brag to your friends about doing it yourself!

Pssst save and print this image if you want to skip the drawing your own tree step!
